One evening, two arcs of time

The opening film sets foundation for where it all began, 1966. The closing film reminds us of what lies ahead. Sixty years of 320 Newbury Street and BAC is shared as a legacy celebrating all that has taken place and all that is to come.

The Building

An archival, nostalgic piece evoking the beginning: 1966, the architectural and educational legacy of 320 Newbury Street. This captivating introduction invites the audience to where it all began. This video is built from existing archival material, and driven by a narrative voiceover from Mahesh Daas.

There are places we pass through.
And there are places that become part of us.
For sixty years, 320 Newbury Street has been more than concrete, glass, stairs and rooms.
It has been a place of first ideas.
Late nights.
Rolled drawings and worn pencils.
Questions asked, erased, and asked again.
A place where generations came to learn how to shape the world around them.
And somewhere along the way, they shaped this place, too.
Every studio carries a trace of those who worked there before.
Every hallway holds sixty years of footsteps.
Every window has looked out on a city that never stopped changing.
And still, here we are.
Different faces. New tools. New possibilities.
But the same restless belief that brought us here in the first place:
That something imagined
can become something real.
For sixty years, this building has held that possibility.
And tonight, we celebrate everything it has made possible.

BAC to the Future

A film that celebrates what the institution has built, how far it has come, and where it will go next: global hubs, free education, leadership in AI and higher education, and the case for human judgment in an automated world. This video is built from our library of BAC footage, and is driven by a narrative voiceover from Mahesh Daas, as well as supplemental narrative from past BAC Channel featured voices.

Voiceover Script ▸
Sixty years ago, BAC imagined a different kind of future.
One where education could be more open.
More accessible.
More connected to the world outside its walls.
That future is here.
Today, BAC is larger, more diverse, and reaching farther than ever before.
Across Boston.
Across borders.
Across disciplines.
We’re building new partnerships.
Exploring new ways to learn.
Expanding who has access to an education in design.
And as technology transforms what’s possible, we’re asking an even bigger question:
What will the world need from us next?
Because the future won’t be shaped by technology alone.
It will need imagination.
Judgment.
Curiosity.
And people who understand that designing something new begins with understanding who it is for.
For sixty years, BAC has challenged what an education in architecture and design can be.
Now, imagine where that idea can go.
The future isn’t something we’re waiting for.
We’re already building it.
